We all want to be invited to the big celebration. We don’t want to be left out or forgotten. The good news is – you are invited! It’s not to a birthday or a victory celebration but to the banquet of eternal salvation, the celebration of your own and the world’s rescue from sin and everlasting death. God the Father has prepared this feast by slaughtering nothing less than the finest that He has to offer – His only begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. He has laid down His life and taken it up again for you – for all sinners. The rod of justice that should have crushed you forever, crushed Him so that your seat at the banquet of everlasting life would be secured. Everything is ready. God has made all the preparations and through His Word invited you to the banquet of faith. May God the Holy Spirit lead us away from every distraction that would keep us from turning down this invitation, from turning away from the salvation which He freely serves to us through His Word and the Holy Sacraments. I look forward to seeing all of you this coming Lord’s Day as together we joyfully heed the invitation to feast on the rich mercies of God.
