The Feast of Pentecost

Pentecost presents us with a really wonderful picture of the Christian Church – sinners of every nation under heaven gathering around the proclamation of the mighty works of God in Christ to save them. Faith loves to hear this glorious good news. It never gets tired of it because of the great magnitude of what has been done for it. We don’t gather around the preaching of the Gospel because it is a good work that demonstrates to God how good we are. God forbid we should think such a thing! Christians love to gather in the house of the Lord because we love to hear of our salvation. We love to hear of God’s mercy. We love to hear the truth because we are awash in a culture of lies. We love to be healed and strengthened. We love to be forgiven. And we love to gather with all those who love those same things. We love to encourage and support one another. We love to rejoice in one another’s blessings and bear one another’s tragedies. The Holy Spirit gathers the body together that we may be whole together with our head, our Lord Jesus Christ. So let us not forsake this gathering together for our own sakes and for the sake of our brothers and sisters in Christ. Let us rejoice to gather together around the sound of the Holy Spirit – the preaching of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. May God the Holy Spirit grant that we all gather together this coming Lord’s Day around the saving Gospel of Christ.
