Tenth Sunday After Trinity

The world is full of zeal for a lot of things and is filled with idols. We only need to look to the opening of the recent Olympics. In an event meant to celebrate the unity that can be enjoyed celebrating the accomplishments of the world’s top-performing athletes, very intentional effort was made by the event organizers to not only show forth their zeal for their idol of sexual pleasure but also their hatred for Christ and His Church. Zeal – yes. Idolatry – yes. Vain worship – yes. The world perpetually chases after gods of its own making that only lead to destruction because they refuse to submit to the Word of God which clearly reveals to us that the only way of salvation is our Lord Jesus Christ. They stumble over Him because He calls them away from their sinful desires and would have them receive His righteousness. Let us be careful that we aren’t zealous for those things that are not God’s nor attempt to obtain righteousness apart from Christ. Instead, let the temples of our hearts and minds be cleansed from all evil desires and false beliefs that we may fear, love, and trust in God alone and walk according to His commandments. I look forward to seeing you this coming Lord’s Day in His temple to be cleansed by His Word and Blood.
