Second Sunday in Advent

All things in this life are fleeting. They are passing away. No matter how meticulously we care for our cars, eat good foods, or protect our toys, everything eventually will fade away like the flowers of the field. They cannot endure. Death and decay touch everything, some more quickly than others but nothing is exempt. Everything except the Word of God. It alone is eternal because it is the Word of the eternal One, the great I AM. This word will never change. It is not subject to the passing fads of time or the forever bending opinions of men. His commands will never change. The Law of God is eternal. What is good has always and will always be good. What is evil has always been and will always be evil. God’s promises do not waiver. There is no shadow or variation in God due to change. When once God has spoken it will be. When God absolves you of your sin, He doesn’t suddenly change His mind. You might need to hear it more than once but that isn’t because God has wavered. It’s only because you have. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and always and He has promised that He is present with you to save you by His eternal and life-giving Word. So as the world shifts and changes every day because it is fading away, let us gather together around the one thing that will never change – the Word of the Lord. I look forward to seeing all of you this coming Lord’s Day.
