The invitation to Christ’s kingdom is, truly, a gracious one. Thanks and praise be to God that we have receive the invitation. We have heard the Gospel. It has been told to us that Christ Jesus has forgiven sins by His death and that through Holy Baptism and Holy Communion, that gift is graciously bestowed upon all who receive it by faith. The question is whether we will or not. Will we lay down all that is earthly to heed Wisdom’s call and receive the rich feast of salvation which has been prepared for us? Will we seek first the kingdom of God or will we allow worldly cares and concerns, the “important” stuff, to distract us? Will we consider how blessed we are to have been invited by the King or will we turn up our noses and act as though what the King has to offer isn’t of that much value to us? Will we delude ourselves into thinking that there will be another time to accept the invitation or will we seriously consider that today is the day of salvation and that the Lord’s patience will not endure forever? Children of God, let us lay aside every worldly fleeting concern and heed the invitation to feast in the kingdom of God. I look forward to seeing you this coming Lord’s Day.
