We don’t think of God as forgetting until we feel forgotten or ignored. When our flesh presses us to capitulate to temptation day after day. When our spouse’s body or our own are consumed with sickness. When those who hate the Word of God shout and scream threats and blasphemies. Then we cry out with the psalmist “How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?” But the Lord does not and cannot forget His beloved children. He remembers all that He has done and promised. It is we who have forgotten and need reminding. It is we who who have lost sight and feel as though we are drowning under the waves to be lost forever. But He who keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. He is not slow to keep His promises as some count slowness. He is good. He is right. He is merciful. And He will remember you and deliver you as He has promised. And He has provided you not only a reminder of this deliverance but a foretaste of it. He invites you to sit at His feet as He proclaims His promises to you and He bids you to come to His altar and there taste the deliverance accomplished through the offering of Christ’s suffering, death, and resurrection. I look forward to seeing all of you this coming Lord’s Day that together we may remember and proclaim His death and He may remember and deliver us.
