Not all who can see, actually see. Not everyone who reads the Bible understands and believes it. The disciples had been with Jesus for three years listening to His preaching about the kingdom of God and witnessing His miracles. Their eyes and ears worked fine by medical standards, but when Jesus told them (again) that He would have to suffer and die and rise again, they just couldn’t make that fit. They didn’t see how that was necessary. They did not yet fully understand the mercy that all men need or why Jesus dying would be helpful to anyone. But a blind man, who couldn’t see anything, saw with perfect clarity. He believed that Jesus was the long-awaited Messiah who had come to have mercy on poor sinners. And there was simply nothing or anyone who was going to stop him from crying out to the Son of David and imploring Him for mercy. God grant that by His Holy Spirit we see Jesus for all that He is and does and that we allow nothing in this life to keep us from daily crying out to God for His rich and abundant mercy which is ours alone in Christ Jesus, the Son of David. I look forward to seeing you all this coming Lord’s Day.
