As Christians we are called to patience. We are not given to immediately see the full fruits of what we believe. That only comes after the Last Day. Until then we must wait. We must endure persecution. We must endure affliction. We must endure suffering. We must be satisfied with the promise that one day our faith will be vindicated and everything we hoped for and believed in will be shown to be true. On the Last Day, no one will be able to deny that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God and that He alone has the words of eternal life. The Jews furiously persecuted Jesus and had Him crucified because they rejected the salvation that He brought for them and for the whole world. They were offended that a man would dare to claim that He was the Son of God, that He is the I Am who called Abraham out of his idolatry and established the covenant of salvation through Abraham’s seed, Isaac, the son of promise. Christ had perfect faith in God. He was perfectly obedient and never stopped trusting in the promises of God. But He only saw the vindication of that faith at the resurrection, after suffering rejection, torment, and crucifixion. Your faith will be vindicated. And until that day, the Lord graciously sustains and strengthens His children through the Word and the blessed sacraments. Vindicate us, O Lord! I look forward to seeing you this coming Lord’s Day.
