Planning is important. If we can think ahead about an event rather than wait until the last minute, we can give it more attention and make more informed choices rather than make decisions in haste or anxiousness. This is most certainly true when it comes to the funeral of a Christian. If we take the time to rightly understand what a Christian funeral is, then we can make some important decisions ahead of time that will be a blessing to our family and those who will attend our funeral. This isn’t morbid or sad. Instead, it is taking some time to choose hymns and readings from Scripture that clearly hold forth Christ and the hope that we have in Him, the very thing those who are mourning our death need the most.
On May 11th, from 10am to 12pm, Pastor will be leading a funeral planning workshop at the church. We will discuss what a Lutheran funeral is (and isn’t) and we will have the opportunity to walk through the funeral rite so that we can have a proper understanding of the purpose of the Christian funeral. We will also spend some time talking about giving directions to your loved ones if the time comes regarding caring for you at the end of your life. It is best to make your desires known ahead of time so that their decisions can be guided by the Christian faith that you confess. Planning these things will also enable your loved ones to focus more on hearing the Word of God and mourning, rather than getting wrapped up in such details and hoping that they are acting in accord with your wishes.
Please join us as we study God’s Word and rejoice in the comfort of Jesus Christ who is risen from the dead. Materials will be provided but you are welcome to bring your Bible and something to write with. We hope to see you there.
