Worrying seems like something we do recreationally these days. Admittedly, there are lots of things going on and many of them are not good; some of them are downright evil. Some of them have the potential to cause a great deal of harm and suffering to a lot of people. The problem is that in most of those cases there is absolutely nothing we can do about them. We can’t change or fix them. Our voice is rather small, our influence limited. What’s more, we don’t even fully understand the issues. There is a whole lot that we don’t know. The issues are too complex with too many moving parts, too many unknown variables, and too many actors. That is why we worry. We can’t control it. It doesn’t matter if it is the weather or politics or friendships. We don’t call the shots and we have somehow convinced ourselves that a) we know the right answer, b) we are the only one who can do anything about it, and c) we are morally obligated TO do something about it. All of the world’s problems are our problems and we have to do something about it…but we can’t. Stop worrying. You aren’t in control and you can’t do anything about all the things but there is one who is can and who does. The Lord Jesus Christ, who sits at the right hand of power and majesty bids you to sit down and rest and recognize that He is at work. He sees your need and everyone else’s need and He is tending to every last one of them exactly as is best. Come. Sit down. Rest. Let Jesus feed you with what you need – the life, the peace, and the salvation that He alone can give. I look forward to seeing you this coming Lord’s Day.
