Jesus told the tempter “Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” And that Word is Jesus Himself! He is the Word of the Father who reveals and wins for us salvation from sin and death. AND He is the true bread from heaven who gives us His Flesh to eat and His Blood to drink so that we might be filled with true and eternal life. This same Jesus is also the one who gives us our daily bread, all that we need to support this body and life. He withholds nothing that we need. He causes His sun to shine and His rain to fall on the righteous and the unrighteous alike because of His great compassion toward us. But woe to us if our hunger runs only belly deep, if we desire nothing more from God than bread which fills our bellies. May God grant us to always hunger for the Bread that endures forever – our Savior Jesus Christ and His righteousness. I look forward to seeing you this coming Lord’s Day.
