Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity

As Christians who have come to know the goodness and mercy of God, not just in the abundant good of creation but especially in the atoning death of God’s Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, it is probably shocking to us how thankless and even hateful the world is toward the God who has done so much for us. It is exactly as our Lord has foretold “The gate is wide and the way easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. The gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” (Matt. 7:13-14) God pours out His abundant mercies upon all people. Believer and unbeliever alike receive the sun and the rain. The Word of God is preached without partiality to all. Yet so very few acknowledge these good gifts of God and return thanks to Him for His mercy. God grant us humble and thankful hearts for all the goodness and mercy He has showered upon us. I look forward to seeing all of you this coming Lord’s Day to taste and see that goodness and give thanks to our gracious God.
