“They have Moses and the prophets. Let them hear them.” All that is necessary for salvation is contained for us in Holy Scripture. We don’t need signs or miracles. If we won’t believe when God speaks, then signs and miracles are meaningless. And how blessed are we to have Moses, the prophets, the psalms, and now the apostles so readily available to us so that we may hear them! You should have at least one Bible in your home. You can have it on your computer and your phone. You can even have the Scriptures read to you as an audiobook. We truly have no reason and no excuse not to daily hear and read the Scriptures “which are able to make one wise unto salvation.” It is the life-giving Holy Spirit who creates and sustains faith through the means of the Word preached and read. But woe to any who spurn this Word either in deed or in heart and expect God to save them by any other means. Such a person will only end up in eternal torment longing for a drop of water to cool his tongue. God grant us all eagerness and joy to hear Moses and the prophets and all the Scriptures and receive them in faith, that we may join Lazarus and Abraham in the kingdom of God.
