St. Luke tells us that Joseph and Mary marveled at what was said about their infant son, Jesus, by St. Simeon. When we consider all that has been revealed to us in Holy Scripture, especially now the full revelation of our salvation in Jesus Christ, it ought to cause us all to marvel. How can such things be? How can it be and why would God give His only-begotten and sinless Son to take on the flesh of those who hate Him and daily rebel against Him for the sole purpose of forgiving them and saving them from the eternal wrath that we deserve by dying for us? But He has! This ought to be the most marvelous good news that we could ever imagine hearing. It ought to fill our hearts with the deepest and most profound joy. What has been told to us in the Holy Scriptures is beyond our reason and even our imagination. This is news that faith never tires of hearing because of its magnitude, its consequences, and power to bring hope in the midst of our fallen and broken lives. Marvel at what God in His love as done for you in sending you a Savior and come to hear this good news yet again that you might be given fresh joy and strength as you wait for your Savior to return. I look forward to seeing all of you this coming Lord’s Day.
