One of the gifts of Christ that He instituted and gave to His Church was the Office of the Holy Ministry. Through that ministry the Church exercises Christ’s authority to forgive the sins of repentant sinners and withhold repentance from the unrepentant as long as they do not repent. Through the pastoral office, Christ continues to proclaim the good news that our sins have been pardoned by His death. What good is good news if there is no one to tell it? Or, as the apostle says “How will they hear unless someone is sent?” (Romans 10:18) Praise God who has ensured that the Gospel will be proclaimed so that we can hear it!
