Feast of the Holy Trinity

In a world that wants to analyze and explain everything, though of course that is impossible, the Feast of the Holy Trinity is a real challenge. Why? Because we can’t explain the Holy Trinity – how is it possible that there is only one God but three distinct persons who are all fully God. There is no equation or diagram or analogy that can capture this great mystery. On this feast day of the Church Year we don’t gather to try to understand the nature of the Trinity. We gather to confess the Holy Trinity and rejoice that He has revealed Himself to us in His Word so that we may know Him and call upon Him. What we can know is what the Blessed Trinity has done for us. We know that “God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” This is exactly how the Holy Trinity has loved you. He bore the guilt of your sin and atoned for it in your place. The Father gave the Son to die for you and the Holy Spirit has proceeded from both to deliver this salvation to you. What can be done but to glorify and praise the Trinity for all He has done for us so that we might have a share with Him in His kingdom for all eternity. I look forward to seeing you this coming Lord’s Day as we gather with the seraphim and the whole Church in heaven and on earth to bow our heads and hearts in worship and praise to the Blessed and Most Holy Trinity and receive life from His gracious hand.
