Eighth Sunday after Trinity

With all of the different denominations and churches that surround us claiming to teach the Bible, a very serious obligation is laid upon every single Christian to be daily students of the Holy Scriptures. In our pluralistic society that despises the notion of absolute truth and the poisonous fear of offending someone, it is very easy to be deceived by those who wrap themselves in the clothing of Christianity in order to hide the razor sharp teeth of their false doctrine that kills and destroys those who don’t know what God actually says and allow themselves to be taken in simply because they hear words from the Bible. In the revelation given to St. John, false prophets are depicted as a swarm of locusts whose mouths are like lions’ teeth. These locusts come forth from the abyss of hell to harm and torment those on earth. This is exactly what false doctrine does. It torments souls because it confuses and misleads them, turning them from the true Christ who forgives sins to the anti-Christ who promises salvation to those whose works are sufficient. The deep study of God’s Word isn’t just for pastors. It is for every Christian so that they may recognize those false teachers, flee from them, and point them out so that others may be spared. I look forward to seeing you all this coming Lord’s Day as together we hear the true and pure Word of God and rejoice in the life that we have in the true and only Christ.
